INTERpark's Colorado Plateau Pottery |
Patricia Lacey Ph.D. presents a lecture which recounts some of the history of Colorado Plateau Pottery. Then she steps you through the creation of a pot being made with the same technique that was used by the Ancestral Puebloans.
The making of this Olla pot takes you from digging the clay, shaping the pot, painting and firing of the pot. All of this is achieved through what scientist believe was the method used long long ago.
This educational demonstration is given by the late Lee Lacey. Many of his replications of Ancestral Puebloan Pottery are curated at the Anasazi Heritage Center and used in interpretation.
Firing of the pot takes place on Woods Mesa in the Canyon of the Ancients National Monument in Colorado, and is achieved in the historical method.
